Persepolis
Short account

in accord with the inscription found at Persepolis, commenced at the time
of Darius the Great in 518 B.C. Persepolis is located about 56 km north
of the city of Shiraz, and on the rise of Mercy mountain (Kooh-e-
Rahmat). Based on the inscription found, the construction of Persepolis
took nearly 180 years, and it was used for up to 200 years. It was the
ceremonial Palace for Achaemenian Kings. Each King after Darius the Great
added a palace and other buildings to this unique collection.
